Gen II Boxster - which model year?
Discussion
Hi guys
Looking at a Boxster for a weekend toy and would really like a Gen II to avoid the potential engine issues associated with the Gen I.
Were they from 2009 or are there some Gen II models in that year.
How would I tell?
Is it a case of checking the chassis number or are there any tell tale signs in terms of specification.
Also, any other things to look for in terms of buying tips?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers

Superb cars. Gen 2 feels quite a step on from a gen 1
Visually a few face lift changes, design of the front and rear lights, rear bumper defusers etc. Wheel designs are different too
Interior the car feels different from the face lift too. Console area is more modern with cdr30 or PCM3 in black.
Gen 2 cars started coming out on a 58 plate so most 09 cars are gen 2 unless it's a late registered gen 1.
2.9 is a joy to drive.

I found the 2.9 a bit lacking on a test drive until it was really pushed. The 3.4 was a different beast altogether, I just need to find one I like now but seeing some 981's on the market at good prices so looking at them as well.Visually a few face lift changes, design of the front and rear lights, rear bumper defusers etc. Wheel designs are different too

So possibly anything from mid 2009 onwards?
Was the 2.9 introduced purely for the Gen II models, and, if so, I suppose this is an easy way to tell them apart from the Gen I models?
2.9 was introduced with the Gen 2. Visually, the front and rear light changes are the most noticeable difference. Rear lights changed to LED. Compare pictures of 2008 models with 2010 models to be sure of the difference. Was the 2.9 introduced purely for the Gen II models, and, if so, I suppose this is an easy way to tell them apart from the Gen I models?
