Been offered a Mountain Equipment Tupilak jacket, brand new, no tags.
Guy claims it was a present that was tried on once but too small so never been worn, has no receipt as a gift.
He wants less than half the new price which is still a lot to gamble on it being pukka, is there any way to tell?
It's more jackert than I need (was looking at the Lhotse) but if it's genuine then it's a great deal.
On the verge of wakking away as if it walks like a duck etc but if there's an easy way to tell?

You can buy one brand new for about £250 can't you?
At that money I would just buy a brand new one rather than pay for a potentially dodgy one.
Having said that, my brother brought me a 'fake' North Face jacket back from Thailand as a gift and I inspected it and inspected it and couldn't tell at all if it was real or not. It was perfect in every respect. I think a lot of these 'fakes' aren't actually fakes but just stuff that's either seconds or stuff that's been pinched out of the factories in Thailand/Cambodia where they are actually made.

Can you get a photo of the labels inside the jacket? They may come with style codes or information to help verify legitimacy via Certilogo or a similar service. No labels inside the jacket and I wouldn't even bother going that far. There's no real reason for cutting those off.

Possible enough; I've heard stories of 'unauthorised' trainers, meaning they're produced in the factories or with the correct tooling, but they're not real in the sense they were meant to exist. The same thing could happen in other factories too.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
