Bristol: New scamera

Just a warning, in case you travel this way.
"They" have just installed one of those new-fangled digital scameras at the top of Stoke Hill facing towards the Downs. Its unclear as to whether its enforcing the lights (with their new, crazy timings and recently removed filter lanes), speed or both (as its set back a bit from the lights).
Grrr.
Oh well, at least it might mean that the mobile unit that's often parked somewhere in the vicinity might go and play elsewhere now...

There's also another one gone up on hotwells road, heading away from the centre. And a couple more have been put in on the ring-road in the Filton area. They have also put markings on the road on the A369 heading out of bristol, just after Leigh Woods. No actual camera as yet though.
Obviously the ones in the area already aren't making enough money.

Yes, they are the new lanky type. So instead of a tyre you have to drill a hole in the casing and pour in petrol. Not that I've ever done this.....
Day of the Triffids? Don't joke. The bloody things are popping up everywhere. It absolutely sickening the way they are insisting on perpetuating the absurd 'speed kills' policy.

Apologies for the cross-post but whilst replying to another thread, the following occurred to me (see highlight):
Any BiB / Scamera ops / Council workers care to elaborate?
So many Monitron units have been slung up around Bristol just recently at sites with very few accident problems, I can only assume its about revenue and how to cheat the guidelines in order to get it.
Re the camera that started this thread... if (and that's a big "if"
) there's a problem with people jumping the lights, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the council has just recently ed around with the junction and light timings such that the traffic flow now seems much less smooth. IMO this is because the 2 busiest approaches to the junction have had their filter lanes removed, thus making the problem worse rather than better!

Therefore the only conclusion I can draw is: its there for speed enforcement really (in addtion to the GATSO further up the road) and they're sneaking them in at lights to circumvent the usual guidelines on placement.

Where is this camera? (he says hoping it's not on that bit of road between the Abbey Wood roundabout and the bottom of Filton Avenue)

Unfotunately or luckily for you (depending on whether you turned off into Filton Avenue) its on the main set of lights (i.e. the Filton Ave/Station Road junction) as opposed to the lights just before these.
