Dental Work - 2 Fillings, No Pain before, Lots after

Hey all, looking for a bit of advice. Recently went to the dentist for a checkup as hadn't been in 4+ years. I hadn't had any issues other than very mild and intermittent sensitivity in one tooth but not enough to worry me. I mentioned that to the dentist. They took an X-ray and notice a dark line in the on two teeth in the image and suggested that it showed a potential for cavity build up and to prevent problems they could do a filling on the 2 affected teeth.

Took them up on it, went back a couple of weeks later and had the fillings done. As soon as the anaesthetic wore off I was unable to eat on the teeth due to acute pain when applying any level of pressure...and I mean even soft food, not clamping down but just very light pressure and got instant sharp, shooting pains through the tooth.

I've been back twice since but still very uncomfortable and can't eat on the affected teeth! Really lost confidence in the dentist and not sure what to do next. Any similar experiences or suggestions?
