VAG (VW) build times

Just looking for some comments from anyone in the know. I'm being quoted 13 weeks lead on a factory order VW. That's fine. Im not sure on exact spec and dealer tells me we can enter into a deal now and change the spec before build.

The factory is in Germany. I know that these mega factories spit a car out in something like 30 hours once in build. Roughly, and just a wild stab, given 13 weeks lead when exactly would the car enter build. Let's assume 2 weeks deliver so 11+2 (13 weeks). Would I be correct in assuming the car is in build in week 11 and if that is the case, when would the spec changes not be possible. I would assume week 9-10?

Sounds about right, I ordered my GTD last February and it turned up in June. The time from build to delivery was really quick (only 2 - 3 weeks) but getting to that point took ages.

You can't amend the spec after the build week gets confirmed. Confirmation will come 4 weeks before the actual build week. Once it's built you will probably have the car in 3 weeks.

You will get the best deal if you actually know what specification you want when you order it as you can go to multiple dealers to get the best price. If you change the options around after ordering the dealer will be less keen to do you a good price on them as he's already got you on the hook.
