Eye issues (968 help please!)

I've recently had laser eye surgery (which went really well) though over the last couple of days have had swelling around my upper and lower eye lids.

I've been advised that this is probably due to an allergic reaction to the preservative in artificial tears.

Has anyone had this before (and how long does it take to fix?). I've replaced the drops but still have swelling to my eyes (24 hrs later).

I can't really get back to see my surgeon until Friday and would like some reassurance that this is normal (or not, so I can drive the 200 miles to Leeds if necessary).

I'd guess the surface of the cornea, having been cut, takes time to settle down/become smooth and it's irritating the lids.

Just a hunch from a non-optician! Get well soon.

I had eye surgery a few years ago. It took a week for the pain to subside, and even longer before I could look at anything bright.

I've been lucky enough not to have any pain whatsoever (and still don't) and was only light sensitive for a couple of days.

However, the lids are itchy and red (which is going) and swollen (which isn't).

I had my 2 week check-up last week and they appear to be healing well so was advised to stop the other medication I was taking.

As I result, I've been using more artificial tears and used loads yesterday as I was in an air conditioned environment.

I suspect I over did it and the preservative didn't agree with me.

I'd say it probably wasn't the movement of the lids (because they're swollen beneath the eye a bit too) but it's a possibility!
