Flash player advice
Discussion
Not bothered me in the past - but it seems to have dropped off, I can't get it to work.
I had trouble downloading from the macromedia site - that didn't work.
Every flash application just comes up as a white box with a red cross in it... The 'properties' seem to suggest it's pointing to the right place..
Any advice - I need to appraise a web cast and am not looking too professional at the mo

You don't say what browser, version or OS you're using, or whether you have any anti-virus or adware blockers installed, so I will assume your setup is identical to mine.
I'd have a look in downloaded program files, and if you have any flash or shockwave objects installed, uninstall them. Also go through the advanced options for your browser, anti-virus, anti-spyware/adware/etc and see if anything related to active X objects has been turned off.

[humble] aah, IE6 SP2, XP Pro SP2, - had loads of crap on this computer, but pretty basic now. Nothing untoward in tools/options/security or even shockwave, flash, java or any spyware/adware/pop up/virus/even a sodding firewall/anything in the settings nonsense running last time i tried, axtiveX killed and re birthed.. Everything else works splendidly - just the white cross on the white background for flash stuff...
In IE goto
Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs
Then click "Manage Add-ons" -> scroll down to flashy bits. Make sure they are enabled there is also an update button. I have found this to work when the flash site won't - give it a click.
Or another way
Tools -> Internet Options -> General
then click "Settings" inside "Temporary internet files" boundary. Then click "View objects". Right click on flashy bits and select update.
Hopefully Bobs your mothers brother

Thanks for everybody's advice!!
Spent a couple of hours the other day on the same problem at someone else's studio and found a string in this reg setting (funny how you apply yourself differently when you're being paid...!!)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerActiveX Compatibility{D27CDB6E-AD-CF-B-444553540000}
Deleting any keys here... stopping internet explorer, starting it again, and yeargh... you get their/(your) flash stuff back...
Wouldn't mind knowing what caused these chaps to be crayoned into the reg in the first place - any road.
Hope this is useful to anyone else.
