Hi All,

I have a setup in which we an ERP system Exact 3ex, which we pull data from a file, using ODBC.

I have fathomed out that there is a file that a Connx database is setup to pull its info from, and then a VB app pulls the information from the Connx db, and creates an Access db for use with our ASM Order System.

One of the Tables in the ASM system is receiving duplicate values in a column, and I want to work backwards to pin down why.

I have two questions:

1. The app that creates the Access db from the Connx db is an .exe - how can I view the code in it so that I can see where it gets it's info from?

2. In Connx, can anyone tell me how a Connx db updates it's tables - is this done manually, automaticly or what?

I don't have a db background and am pulling my hair out as there is no documentation on this system at all - can anyone help?

Cheers

Neil

1. Unless you can read binary/hex there is no real way to decompile the EXE back to source. Who wrote it?

I thought there were decompiling programs out there...

There are but I dont think they will get it back to VC++ or VB or the like.

Things may have changed since I last looked but it seems unlikely otherwise there would be no real concept of IP in software.

You are going to need the source code to whatever this .exe program is so you can read it and see what its doing...I presume its a bespoke .exe written specifically for the purpose?

If it isn't (some generic utility) then there will be a configuration file of some sort with the queries in you may be able to look at...

Nope. Yes..there *are* disassemblers. Yes there *are* programs which will read assembler and write out "C". there is *nothing* that will decompile a modern program into a semblance of the original source code that produced it.
