This seems to be becoming less and less common with the advent of online gaming.

I miss the old days of having mates round for a few beers and playing Xbox split screen.

Always though it was a shame that the BF games don't have this functionality but CoD have stuck to it. Forza still does too I think.

What other games can ph recommend?

Me and an old friend used to spend hours upon hours on the Special Ops splitscreen on CoD: MW2 trying to beat the best times.

And let's not forget, the greatest..

Never noticed that game had multiplayer. If you like that, try Gang Beasts as well, but that's in Early Access stages at the moment.

Ultimate Chicken Horse is another PC party game. Introduced two of my mates to it last weekend and they loved it. Can play both locally and online, or combine the two if there aren't 4 of you.

Used to love a bit of local multiplayer vs or co-op but as stated it seems to be a die-ing art. What I find particularly strange is that hardly any car racing game has local multiplayer anymore. Surely that's one genre where I'd say it's almost essential. When friends come round to mine for a gaming session we are pretty much limited to Fifa or fighting games which is a bit poor.

Anyway this website is a great resource for this kind of thing.

You can sort by hardware platform, genre etc and it tells you exactly what kind of local multiplayer capability a game offers.

Overcooked on Xbox One (and possibly PS4/PC) is very good for a local coop game. Only came out last week - it's a couch coop cookery game – way more fun than it sounds! Has the potential to ruin friendships though.
