TT2 - Going into manual without changing gear

Is there any way to do this on a TT2 Virage/DB9/DBS, i.e., switch to paddle mode without actually moving up or down a gear from the current one selected by the automatic mode?

It would be useful on occasions.

One of my other cars also has a torque converter gearbox, which can be used in either Auto or Manual mode. Unlike the big Astons, instead of paddles, the Manual gears are selected by moving the gearlever to the left (shift down) or right (shift up).

When the Auto is in top gear (5th), moving the lever left will select 4th gear Manual. Therefore, it has to change down to select Manual. When changing up in Manual, moving from 4th to 5th puts it into Auto mode.

Perhaps all the Auto/Manual torque converter gearboxes work in a similar way.
