I want to grab a domain name that was due for renewal on 31st Jan, and has not been renewed. WHOIS shows status as "Renewal required." However, UKREG shows it as still taken. The previous domain owner, a pal of a pal, doesnt think he's done anything to keep hold of it. Have mailed UKREG for support but not reply yet.. an ideas?

takes quite a while for a domain to be deleted
45-60 days for .com net org etc
.uks, well, who knows.. used to take upto a year.. they have got better now, but I wouldnt expect it to be free for 4-6mths.
Once its been deleted, you should be able to reregister it, assuming noone else beats you to it.
if its his domain, why not have him renew it, and then just transfer it to you.

I have wonder this at times too as there was a couple of Domians that I wanted that werent being used, just held
s'pose they where hoping the name might be worth more in a couple of years.
