I don't know how much they go for, but a CBR1100 Super Blackbird would fit the bill nicely. I hear the Yamaha Thundercat is also pretty comfy, but you may want a bit more grunt.

VFR 800 would probably suit you. Shop around and a decent one should be available for the money you're looking at. Are you chopping in the GSX against it, or is it a second bike?

Depends really on how much i was offered for it in part exchange but would more than likely try to sell it privatly first i'm in no hurry but if the right deal came along that could change, afterall i'm a fair weather rider and the summers a way off yet!

I agree with MAD DAVE, I did 2500 miles on my blackbird in a week round europe last year, it was mega. They handle brilliant for a big bike and are comfy as an armchair, . Before I got it I tried a VFR800 was cool for ploddin but get a pillion on the back and just found I was ringin its neck to get anywhere. For the kind of money your talkin you can get a pretty tidy example.

Good luck

Crikey john that's some serious mileage in a week!

that's one bike i've never really looked at before now, don't get me wrong i love my gixxer but suppose you've got to look at the comfort factor and if u can do that sort of mileage its got to be worth a good look............. just got to find one as i said i'm in no rush just yet.

I have to suggest the triumphs to you too.

Did barcelona and back (2500 miles) in 5 days on my daytona, which is just as comfy on a trackday as it is on long jaunts.
If travel is more your thing, then the Sprint ST or tiger is worth a look at.

Go and ride a ZZR1200. The model is being replaced later this year and they are available at some amazing deals. It is a great bike, but hasn't sold well for reasons I can't fathom - in my opinion it handles better than a Blackbird, is just as comfy and has a mighty engine that is full of character and makes some very silly numbers indeed.

I don't really care about the drop in resale value of mine due to the discounted new ones, because I have absolutely no intention of getting rid of it at all.

I agree with you Mon Ami. It goes like stink when you wind it up (faster than blackbird), does 50+mpg on runs, that's nearly 300 miles/tank!! It's good round the twisties and in town and is comfortable.

The induction noise is fantastic on full throttle as well. The headlights are better than a lot of cars.

Hope this helps.

ZZR 1200 (as above) its daftly quick and comfy,

Or try a Yamaha Thunderace (pic in profile), i was looking for a blackburd but ended up swapping my kwack for the ace , again its stupidly quick smooth and will do touring and handles very well if you want to just go and play .

If you live near Bristol you are welcome to come and have a look at mine. Be happy to take you out for a quick spin. Just noticed your budget restriction (sorry, not paying attention before). I reckon you'll need about £5.5k for a decent ZZR1200. Well owrth looking at a late model 1100D though (as in my profile).

Thanks for the offer mon ami yes the budget restriction does not help but still i'm not in any rush just wanted an idea so if the right bike did come up at the right price then i'd be tempted, but that's a long shot these days most of the best get snapped up quickly.

I've got a Thunderace and I can't think of anything to replace it with. It tours, tops out around 170mph, and keeps up with my mate on his GSXR750 on the twisties. He'd leave me on the track but for the road it is fine. I'm 6' so I get a bit of windblast sitting upright at speed but I'm sure a double bubble would sort it out.
The best this about it is it's the lazy mans motorbike. Stick it in top gear and it'll go from 25mph to 170mph without a stutter!
