Good morning Girls n Boys,

We were told when we bought the car, that it would have been a VERY expensive option when new. We need a proper repair to the 3-part pearlescent paint finish which will not be cheap so to try to get things into perspective......

Anyone got an idea how much extra it would have cost on a ROADSTER in 2008 please ?

Many thanks.

I think that was just the dealer talking up the price/spec, I dont think it was any more expensive than other non "standard" option colours, so a couple of grand on the list. Then minus whatever discount the first owner negotiated.

I dont think a repair will be any more difficult due to the colour, its not like say the colour changing paint popular on TVRs where 1L of paint may be hundreds of pounds instead of £80 (had a Sagaris resprayed in 2008)

In 2008, paint colours were split into three types.

Aston Martin colours.
Other manufacturer's colours.
Any other colour.

Presumably your colour was in the last group, which I think cost about £5,000.

^^^ This!

Unless anybody has a specific chart and pricing for 2008 its hard to say for sure. AM change the classification of some colours each year, as they do with the types of classification bands and the pricing for those bands. As at MY17, Sunburst Yellow is an "AM Special Colour" and is therefore priced at £3495, but that doesn't mean it wasn't more in 2008. As an example, Morning Frost White paint on the invoice for my MY11 V12V was "Paint Colour out of range" at £5495, but its now in MY17 it is also an "AM Special Colour" so £3495.

As Jon has said above its very likely that Sunburst was more like £5000 back in 2008

I think I didn't reply to you when you asked for details on the place I used. My Fire Red colour is also a "Special Aston Colour" back in 2008.

The car bodyshop is in Verwood, Dorset so maybe a little too far for you.
