One bike....

Turning thoughts to winter now the nights are drawing in and what type of riding I'd like to do. So...I'm looking for one bike for winter club rides, summer touring, and the odd cyclocross race for fitness. I quite like the Genesis Croix de fer and it just sneeks in slightly above budget. Any other recommendations? Must be able to take full mudguard set.

Boardman - good VFM, but unfortunately there's no lugs for mudguards/luggage.

I have bought a Boardman CX team - hydraulic discs, SRAM 1x11 etc. Worked out about £630 due to current Halfords 20% discount, less british cycling membership 10% discount and then buying Halfords vouchers at 10% discount to fund it(topcashback on top too).

Have a look at the Genesis Datum, lovely carbon jobbie with 'hidden' guard mounting points.

Although I met admit, I'm looking at the CdF to replace my Ribble winter bike, the call of larger tyres and discs for winter is just too great.

I really don't get this 1x11 fad. Surely having a double up front would make it so much more useful on the road etc?

It is my commuter (9 miles each way) with my 2x10 road bike in the garage for longer rides. Having said that, the 10-42T cassette on the Boardman gives quite a spread... (this is all theoretical as I'm trying to get the Hunt 4Season wheelset to hold air (tubeless) before I ride the bike anywhere!)

All good, but you'll not get any 'cross tyre on there.

Cheers for all the suggestions. The Cx team would be ideal but unfortunately the 1x rules it out for touring and the lack of mounting. The next one up is the CXR which is over budget. The kenesis frameset looks interesting- whats the deal with the Cx wheels? Still swayed towards the CDF 725 frameset shodding it with existing 105 bits. The Datum, whilst ideal, is over budget.

It's a shame they have gone backwards with the Boardman. Got mine last year and it has the gears and mounts. I put Kinesis Crosslights on it and a HyRd front calliper. Maybe look at used ones.

Cheers Magic, Yeah that would be ideal. I know someone with that exact model, hence looking at Boardman bikes first....wonder if he'll sell!

Make sure you check the forks for the screws inside the legs (for mudguards) . I'd seen mention that earlier bikes did not have them. Sizing was a bit messy and mine came with 175mm cranks, despite the claims of shorter ones on smaller bikes.

The Boardman has discreet rack and mudguard mounts.

also the eastway balun c1 £850 at wiggle , 105 mech , shimano hydraulic brakes, carbon fork.
