For very similar money there is a Boxster S, 2016 model with 6k on the clock, fully loaded with toys and a Boxster GTS 2014 with 26k on the clock with the normal GTS spec. What would your choice be and why ?

Like for like, you would have to say the GTS, but in the medium term, the 'premium' on the GTS might be hard to sustain due to extra 2 years and mileage?

Had a very highly specced S, now got a CGTS.

No contest for me GTS every day.

What reasons would you say make it a no contest ?

If it was 'like for like' then the GTS wins by a mile as the standard options are so much better. But getting down to comparing cars 2 years apart in age with different specifications it becomes much more complex.

The 'S' is a great car and if it has the options you want it's down to personal preference as they both have the same qualities. A GTS will always be worth more, but if you get an 'S' with decent options at the right price then it is the best buy.

Really depends on what toys you want, and whether the interior trim, and altered bodywork of the GTS are important to you. An S with the same toys as a GTS (if you can find one) will almost certainly be cheaper and will drive exactly the same. If you really want PSE AND 20" wheels AND Chronosport AND PASM or x73 you may well look a while before finding an S with them . Personally since I specifically didn't want PSE (not my cup of tea) 20" wheels (spoil the ride) and wasn't fussed about Chronosport (but did want and got PASM) the choice of an S was easy for me - but your priorities may be different.

@op it just feels all together more rounded, it's a very subjective thing, but it somehow just feels better resolved, somehow a little better in every way. Not by much, admittedly, but enough to make to me a noticeable difference.

Try both, I think then you'll get it.

Depends on spec

They are the same car it's all about spec and options on each.

As an example S with buckets, PCCB, ,sports sus and manual.

GTS with chairs, steels, PASM and PDK !

it not like the old days when the R was bespoke, you can spec a 981 S better if you wish than a GTS.

Test driven S and GTS on the same day.
The S was lovely and couldn't fault it, but the GTS felt special to be in. Yes it's around £10k more expensive dependant on spec, but if it's your P & J and you can afford it then I would go GTS. The GTS interior/exterior pack really finish off the car.

I guess you were quite lucky to be able to test both, my local OPC never has both in together.

they are still both the same car and you can spec the S with leather and stiching if you like, they feel the same if you spec them the same !!!

I asked myself the same question many times over the last few months - Cayman S or GTS? I found a 2013 981S a few weeks ago with 7k miles, manual, PCCB, Sports chrono, PTV, sports buckets, 20 inch carrera S wheels and a few other extras for a lot less than an equivalent age/mileage GTS. I had driven a GTS previously and, to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference between it and the S (on the road anyway). So it was hard for me to justify spending an extra 10k for not much gain.

The only thing missing on mine that I'd like is the PSE but it does sounds great as it is (the PSE can be retrofitted so it's not a problem).

As has been said time and again if you spec them the same you won't tell the difference on the road or track - because they ARE the same (except for a tiny bit of extra top end power).

Re PSE I think that Porsche may have a lot of spare stock because they are ringing around and writing to people offering to retrofit them. I don't know how much they are asking but I assume there is some sort of discount. Worth asking if you are interested.

You can spec most things, but I believe the PSE is different on the GTS - and you definitely can't specify the leather/alcantara interior on the 'S'. I agree there is more to the GTS with all the things fitted as standard it just makes the car feel 'special' over a similar spec 'S'.

Other differences are the dynamic engine mounts, retuned PASM (according to the Autocar review of the carmine red one), 10mm or 20mm drop in ride height (PASM vs X73),different styling front and rear and GTS specific PSE.
All these well as the power hike make it a more desirable car.

I was contacted by Silverstone, but since I wasn't interested I didn't get the details.
