DNA Ancestry testing?
Discussion
In my family, there is a bit of uncertainty regarding the origin of my great granddad ( on mums side)- possibly from middle east.
Also, some foreign blood in other parts of the family line.
I am thinking about having one of those DNA saliva test done where they can apparently give you a breakdown percentage of the origins of your markers.
Anyone had this done? how was the process and were you surprised by any results?

National Geographic were selling kits a few years ago for about £100 so I got my parents tested. All it really showed was the route our ancestors took out of Africa starting about 70,000 years ago. It wasn't particularly detailed beyond identifying various genetic markers although it did show my parents ancestors taking different routes to Europe and ending up pretty much where there families actually came from.
My partner also did a test and her lineage ended in France which seems about right because we are aware of some distant French ancestors. There might be more expensive tests which may give more detail but I expect this is what you can expect at the bottom end of the market.
