Hey,

I am a British citizen but currently live in the USA and work as a Senior Network Engineer for a Fortune 500 Financial Services Company. I have been over here about 10 years, been in networking for about 8 of those. I have a lot of CISCO Nexus and F5 LTM experience.

Thinking about returning home with the wife and 3 young kids but have no real idea how the job market is for Network Engineers over there. If we did it, I have family in Oxford and London so would be living in that area. Anyone on the forum in Networking? How is the pay? Is there a lot of demand? Is there a lot of contract work etc? I see salaries on indeed ranging from 30k - 80k so difficult to ascertain a true idea. I'm currently in Atlanta and make towards the higher end of that range. Over here there is a lot of demand for Engineers, wondering if that's the same over there.

Thanks for any pointers

You may find property prices in Oxford and London crippling depending on where you live in the USA at the moment and what your expectations are.

I would try speaking with a few specialist recruiters over here. Tech jobs are in demand here, but the impression I get is that the need for senior/experienced IT bods is even higher in the US.

For good networking people there is demand, plenty of senior contracts around £400 and up. Not looked much at perm but I'd guess 40-60 for engineering level roles. There are a lot of chancers on the market so good people should have no problem finding a role. There are a few pop up in Oxford but nearby Milton Keynes, Reading, Swindon & Cheltenham/Gloucester have a lot of work going on and all within an hour or so.
