Does any one know if the orignal speed 12 ever made it in to private ownership,i saw the orignal car at the earls court motorshow, and in action on a jeremy clarkson video. but can some one actually clarify matters if they ever made it in to private ownership. There was a story floating around at the time in the tabloids that liam howlett from the prodigy had bought 2? does anyone know different.. In my mind this was t.v.r,s best car ever.......

Seem to remember the car doing the rounds, including a test at croft with Martin Brundle. It was featured in all the magazines then disappeared to be eclipsed by the Tuscan R.Heard a story, but don't know how true it was, that a lottery winner was visiting the factory and asked to buy one but was informed that TVR chose who they sold them to!

As far as I know, none made it into private hands.

When I was at the factory they said they were making one for someone in Japan to race.

seem to remember that all the pictures show the car as a dismantled wreck, sitting in the cornner of the yard in Blackpool. PW didn't want to sell them to anyone which is a shame

Sorry, I was getting confused with the Cerbera Speed 12 (that was the one destined for Japan). No the original Speed 12's didn't make it very far and are both back at Blackpool as far as I know.

If you have a look at the UK Supercar Drivers Club website www.supercardriversclub.co.uk, you will see a speed 12 in the members car gallery.

Thats a cerbera speed twelve though .....

I have a pic somewhere of a Speed 12 shell sat on top of a transport container in the yard at Blackpool. On the same day, the carbon fibre Cerbera shell and the gold flip-flop Tuscan show car were on display (Back Home 2000?).
There's also a Speed 12 in Demon Tweeks colours on the windowsill in my kitchen... ;-D

I agree that the car was probably the most jaw-dropping thing TVR ever built, and regardless of what engine they'd fitted it would have been a much nicer flagship than the Tamora or Tuscan... IMHO of course.
