Is there a reason why in order to remove a lambda you can't simply cut the wirers and rejoin them , are they normal plastic coated copper core

Why would you want to cut em and cause another area for failure? they run at low voltage so why add resistance into the circuit?

There's no need. You can release the pins from the barrel connector with a small screwdriver to release the clips
