Where is the best place to place trolley jack so axle stands can be placed on all four corners of the car?

Yes Chris is about to re-waxoil the Griff.

Hi Saf,

so you own a Griff and haven't had to jack it up yet... why cant it always be like that!!??

From the front if you look under the car you will see the cross member (that has the towing eye attached to it) it is good to jack centrally from here and then place the axel stands on the chassis near the wishbones.

The rear is the same although there is no towing eye but just look for the cross member.

You 'may' have to jack one side up with the scissor jack to get enough clearence to put the trolly jack in.

Happy Waxing!!

Quite agree, main problem was not where to put jack but how to get it under the car in the first place. soon sorted, buy some ramps
Better still get a mate with a pit...

I normally drive the car onto a couple of bricks first so the trolley jack will fit.

There aint a cross member at the back under which you can put your jack. You have to jack it on the chassis members to one side of the exhaust.

I drive the car onto 2 inch thick planks of wood which allows me to get the jack under the front (the back has enough clearance without this.

Prepare to get plastered in waxoyl.

I tend to do the car "one end at a time". This is partly due to a small garage, but mainly as the only places the axle stands will go that are strong enough are on the main chassis rails.
As these are only a few feet apart, it never seems quite stable enough when it is my head that is under the car!

Also have found it very precarious jacking up the second ends of the car when the other is up on tall 'stands. On the one occasion I tried, the car & trolley jack moved, and the car was supported on two axle stands now leaning at 30deg from vertical. I suppose you could do it in small iterations, front then back, but due to aforementioned small garage I have never bothered, preferring the "end at a time" approach.

You do get covered in waxoyl, and being water repellent by design, it does not wash out of you hair easily (but is not as bads as the underbody seal paint). A chap at my local garage also suggested wearing a mask, to avoid inhaling fine mist particles. A simple dust mask would do.

Thanks all for the replies.

Chris brought home a load of waste card tonight to cover the new garage floor and side walls, thankfully he has a proper waxoil probe thingy which hopefully will make things a bit easier, keep fingers crossed for not to cold conditions for him though.
