Does anyone know what the typical thread size is on a tripod? I know that it is a 1/4, but 1/4 what? UNC? UNF?
Any help would be great.
Cheers

They are usually described as 1/4"-20, whatever that means...

20 threads per inch is my guess.

Defo 1/4", probably Whitworth. One of those things - perhaps the only one - left from the Empire days.

Here you go old bean - a complete list of all the mounts in use

www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm

Typical is 1/4" x 20tpi (BSW 1/4" (20tpi) [British Standard Whitworth, thread angle 55 degree, ISO or DIN 371]) which also tends to accept UNC 1/4.

Clear? (basically a UNC 1/4 will fit in a BSW Whitworth 1/4 and visa versa)
