Gun cam footage

Does anyone know how I can obtain copy of WW2 gun cam footage.

I can find reference to the piece I want, but am not sure how to go about obtaining it, preferably in digital format.

It's 181 Sqd Typhoon, flt lt Entwistle.

As Eric say, the RAF museum might be a good place to start, as would the Imperial War Museum too.

Other than that, no idea I'm afraid!

OP - are you looking for gun camera footage of a specific incident? And if you are, do you know if the footage actually exists.

I was watching a piece on youtube about the difficulties of

a) finding gun camera film

b) actually using it in modern projections systems

c) capable of being copied

d) ensuring it is actually safe (some is on old nitrate stock which is now, after 70 plus years, technically a bomb in a tin)

Well with a little more effort on my part I've found reference to it on the IWM site.

I'm not sure if it actually exists or is just referenced.

I've now emailed both the RAF museum and the IWM hopefully I'll find out soon, it has a combat film reference number but whether it is available in a usable format is yet unknown.

Result!, well provisional result.
After contacting the RAF museum, as suggested, they put me onto the IWM but also gave me some further reference numbers.
As suggested the actual availability and compatabity of these rare and delicate films is variable, but, with some fantastic assistance from Helen at the IWM, they have not only located the combat film I was seeking but also two other gun cam films from Flt Lt Enwistle of 181 Sqd and hopefully they are going to digitalise these for me to purchase!

I don't know the actual content other than its attacks on ground targets in a Hawker Typhoon.

My interest is Flt Lt Tommy Entwistle DFC. After the war Tommy became a successful club racer winning the Freddy Dixon Trophy 3 times.
He raced various marques but is mainly associated with his TVR’s in which he won the Freddy Dixon trophies.
He also had business interests in TVR, owning Grantura plastics who made the TVR GRP bodies and panels.

In 1967 he, and others from TVR and Grantura, particularly David Hives, produced a prototype car called the ‘Gem’ using his then Mk3 Grantura as the base which he hoped would go into production as a sports GT.
TVR’s then new owners didn’t take it up so only one was built, which Tommy raced up until his late eighties become the oldest UK driver to hold an international race licence.
I now am the owner or more accurately the caretaker of Tommy’s Gem and am collating history regarding both the car and Tommy
