Just been watching Jamies School dinners on C4 -
can't make up my mind if the fella is a pompous self serving tw@t or a modern day saint with the needs of the british youth in his heart....
I know what he is trying to do is a good thing (stop kids eating shite food) but the english disease (massive cynicism) suggests that there is a less than altruistic motive for his show.
what do you think?

top bloke - especially his school dinners stuff. Very impressed with how far he's pushing himself.
Scared as hell though about the kids at those schools - might have to work current hours to ensure private school for ours...
Very impressed with how his agent's pushing him?
Hmm.
Some behavioral intervention required re our beloved next generations diet..

What are you doing (apart from typing rhetoric) about improving your kids future..

Nice one Jamie - one of thatchers kids

Jamie Oliver is great, in the same way that Chris Evans is. The reason being, you either love or hate him. There is no indifference. From what I saw on the rotbox, both are people I would like to batter with a big piece of wood, that's great. Since I am the most cynical person possible, most people must love him.
There are millions of good cooks (because that's what they are) in the UK, Oliver has got celebrity gold. Whilst his irritating fat face makes me cross and his recipes make my mum look a culinary genius, he is awesome. He sells safeway products and is a successful chap, laughing all the way to the bank. I just ignore everything he says and look at his cooking as the stuff of students.
As the KitKat advert said, "You can't sing, you can't play, you'll go a long way".

Kids that had never seen a potato, leek or rhubarb was terrifying, I could forgive asparagus.
I blame the parents.
Completely.
'I haven't got time to cook' FFS -
I russled up an organic vegi Laksa yesterday (mushrooms, carrots, peppers, Aubergine, courgette, onion, garlic, ginger, coconut milk, lime juice and rice noodles) it cost £4.00, fed me and the missus, and a mate who turned up unexpected (girlfriend finished story) - he's just left with the leftovers.
Todays risotto cost less than a quid and the accompanying steamed veg may run into the high 90s (pence)
I used to think he was a plonker but then i saw the series where he trained the young kids to be chefs, basically, a good percentage of them were self centred timewasters and most employers would have bullited them in 5 minutes but he really went out his way to give them the best chance to succeed, talked real sense and showed a lot of humility and a strong work ethic.
Good all round bloke.
Mick
Good all round bloke.
Mick
no definatly top bloke. What was really scarey was the parents were bringing junk food down for the kids instead of then eating good food and the school cooks who cannont cook. Acouple that got me, one said "I have never tried any sort of beans" another said "why would anyone want chicken with lemon" "how do you use this grater" If the cooks cannot cook how the hell can they get the jobs.
He went up in my estimation last week when he had Clintons party visit, the staff had worked on a menu for some time and then they were told the party was all on the south beach diet, he walked out refusing to meet Clinton. Now that was cool.

I really admired him for the whole Clinton thing. IIRC he said something along the lines of "If they want steak and ribs, why don't they go to the Hardrock Cafe." [There was probably at least one "f'ing" in there somewhere].
