Looking for info from anyone who's done either of these rides. A couple of friends want to do one of these routes with me next year. From what I have gathered so far from maps, it looks like the C2C is stuck with major roads (particularly across the Lake District).
Any info or advice from those of you who've done either ride would be most welcome.

Ive done the c2c from Whitehaven to Sunderland and none of it is on major roads, If you finished it at South Shields again noe of it is on major roads.

That's good to hear.
Its just I assumed the route from Keswick to Penrith must use the A66, which would be horrible to cycle.

the route between Keswick and Penrith generally uses the old railway line
