Question for M@H re: radiator grill

I have a 98 Chim and had a stone go through a headlight the other day and thought how much it would have cost if it had gone a few inches to the left and hit the radiator.
So I looked at the thread on your rad grill and thought it was a good idea. I have got the mesh and now have a couple of questions.
1) Did you only do the top section of the split radiator "hole"? (It looks like it in your photographs.)

2) How the hell did you get the mesh in place. There is so much "stuff" in there I can't work out how you did it?

3) Finally, my numberplate is screwed to the central divider (half above the divider and half below), which I assumed was standard fit, and it is non too secure. I noticed that you have dropped it down. How have you fixed it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yep, just the top section as the numberplate effectively covers the bottom one pretty much.

Hmmm.. basically I trimmed the mesh to roughly the right size (allowing an inch or two top and bottom, bear in mind it sits at a slope), temporarily bound the edges with electricians tape so they wouldn't scratch the body, then removed the Horn (bolt inside the bonnet). After that I slid it in sideways from one side and had enough room to manouver it into place, just. I held it in place by hooking some wire through the mesh in a few places so I could "pull" it up against the back edge of the aperture whilst the silicone sealant went off.

Its fixed in place top and bottom with those "industrial" stickyfixers you get for fitting numberplates.

PLEASE NOTE:

Access to the air filter is needed to service the car, so don't bond the mesh in "permanently" as it will need removing to get the filter out.

...unless perhaps you've got someone with giraffe type limbs who can get to the filter from the lower aperture of course
