Apologies if anyone got over-excited reading the title, as far as I know there is no such thing. I think it would be bloody brilliant though. The gameplay and open map of GTA but with a zombie apocalypse theme. Nicking cars and doing supply runs whilst avoiding marauding hordes of the undead, and also dealing with other groups of people. Plus endless fun attracting as many zombies as possible and trying to fight your way out. Surely this has to be a goer? (All royalties to me please Rockstar if you're listening).

Thread title = disappointment.

Which reminds me isn't Red Dead 2 out soonish?, they did a zombie version of that which was pretty cool.

Closest thing would be the new Dead Rising when that arrives.

Dying Light with The Following DLC is not far off this.

Looks like I'm missing out on a few good zombie games, need to upgrade to a newer console!

There was/is a patch for GTA 4 which had zombies, but the raining ambulances ruined it.

There was a game on the xbox 360 that is a pretty good match to what you describe, with some additional stuff like meeting survivors and setting up bases in random buildings.

It was called State of Decay. I remember it being pretty good and I believe it's on Steam as well.
