I'm sorry but I do not understand how this man gets TV time or his own show. He is just not funny in my opinion. Does anyone fond him amusing and why?

His news show is very funny. His stand up is not.

I'm guessing one is scripted for him wink

I also don't enjoy his left wing tendencies (like many media luvvies)

Lots of comedians like this.
Howard.
the shouty one from mock the week.
That utter wker gervais.
Brand.
The sweaty little guy out of something about mary.
The little guy that does the backwards hat chav act thing.
The one with the beard out of countdown with cats.
That tt that does keith lemon.

All popular, all totally unfunny to me. Must click with a lot of people though - we all like different things! I bet if there was a thread on some of the comedians I like, there'd be a decent proportion of people that weren't fussed / actively disliked them.

So bad you can't remember any of their names? I agree with you about Lee Evans though; cronic constipation is more amusing.

James Cordon and Michael McIntyre are another pair of unfunny dullards who I can't understand how they get work. Genuinely can't wrap my head around Cordon becoming big in the US as well! I always assume it's something to do with nepotism but it is odd.

One of my favourite comedians, can't explain why; everyone's got a different sense of humour. What I don't understand is why people get wound up about a popular comedian they don't like.

Maybe one day people will realise that comedy and humour is entirely subjective.

Short answer to the title question- occasionally but mostly not.

Slightly longer answer is that laughter is actually a kind of reaction to shock. The trigger to finding something funny is when something unexpected happens. Really basic stuff like a baby reacting to peekaboo or slightly older child laughing at a custard pie in the face or teens finding it funny when someone swears or says st at an inappropriate time. Traditional jokes rely on the punchline being unexpected.
Russell Howard's humour relies on him coming up with an unpredictable take on an everyday situation. Trouble is as he rants on about the same things, his 'take' becomes predictable and therefore no longer funny, as a reaction to this, he throws in some crude language at schoolboy level to try to bring back the element of shock. Whether you find this funny or not depends on your level of intelligence/ intoxication.

Why do some people have to stoop to the level of insulting one's intelligence because they disagree with something other people find funny? I find Russell Howard funny, so you're saying I'm not intelligent?

I thought he was funny when he was a regular on Mock the Week, but I can't say I've seen much else unless he's been on another panel show. I did catch bits of his new show that looked OK, but I've never been bothered enough to watch more. I like Milton Jones on MtW as well, but I'm not sure I could stand it for an hour or two.

I really like Russell Howard. I reckon he's the 21st century replacement for Billy Connolly.

Funny you should say that; I'm a massive fan of the Big Yin as well. Got tickets to see him in November, providing he doesn't suffer the Big Celebrity Cull of 2016...

No, I'm not saying that.
I found Russell Howard funny the first few times I heard him , but as I became familiar with his act, his ability to shock wore off and I found him less so.
I am saying that his reaction to this, the introduction of schoolboy level toilet language, depends on either the audience's level of intellectual development or intoxication.

edited to try not to insult anyone

I think back to his early days on his Good News show and thought it was really good, but in recent years it didn't seem to have the same effect on me. Overall I find him fairly funny, but for whatever reason (either he's gotten worse or my tastes have changed) I don't find him as funny as I used to.

I quite liked his Good News show, but not really that intersted beyond that.

Its the same with Harry Hill, really enjoyed TV Burp but his other stuff has been dire.

He was quite amusing back in the day, both stand up and his TV shows and we've seen him live.

Switched him off around the time of the last election as the show felt more like a party political broadcast on behalf of the labour party than an entertainment show, and haven't really felt inclined to give him another go.

You can be a lefty comedian and thats okay with me, the trick is to avoid sounding like you're regurgitating the dipst mindless tribalism so prevalent in any political discourse particularly in the below 40's
