Wiggle MTB series - Purbeck Hill a Saurus - any good?

Low entry barrier? Almost certainly.
Two years ago I raced the Brass Monkeys winter MTB series on a sub-£300 GT Avalanche MTB. 3x8 Altus/Alivio gears, cable disc brakes, cheap coil fork. It coped admirably, even in some pretty dire weather (and mud) for my first race.
I'm pretty sure you'll find folk on CX/gravel bikes at an off-road sportive, and they'll get round no problem. So long as you have basic line selection ability you can ride most XC race laps on a road bike with 23mm slicks if it's dry enough. A hard-tail on 29" Nobby Nics ought to be a breeze...

t forks and average rubber) and it was fine. Some of the grassy climbs were a bit sloggy, but I recall it being fine. If I recall the worst bit was a sandy section which had a bit of a traffic jam of riders.

The end of August I rode most of that event on a Cross bike, so youll be fine on your 29er. The climb out of Corfe is long but not technical. The drop in to Ulwell is one of the best off road descents in Dorset. The climb upto the Obelisk heading towards Old Harry is a right PITA though lol.
I did it last year on a 10 year old 26er with rigid forks. Rattled my teeth in a couple of places but no problem at all and good fun.
I had to resort to overflow parking next to Corfe as it was very busy - Wiggle came down with a pile of pound coins to pay for our parking. Apparently over 1000 riders but not sure if that was true but all the better for so many bikes in my opinion.
I will be doing it again this year for certain. Very picturesque route.
