Ever since I can recall as a child, when passing through the bottom of Watford (coming off the ring road to go to Tolpits Lane via the football ground, there has been a classic car parked up by a garage by the exit off the triangle shaped island to the football club.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I recall the owner having two identical cars at one point, one red/orange and the other white. Maybe he has owned several over the last 30 odd years but the point is that pretty much all my life there have been these identical model of classic car parked by the road and about 6 months ago I was going passed and noticed one of them had finally been finished and was looking lovely in a bright, shiny red. Last week I drive through again and it looked like the land had been sold for redevelopment and the cars gone.

The nub of my point is that in over 30 years I never actually bothered to establish what the make and model was of these cars. They were an estate of some kind from the 60s/70s, quite sleek and had a front end a little reminiscent of a Stag. I have a vague memory of possibly once knowing but have certainly forgotten. They were metal bodied as for well over a decade they were out there being slowly patched and primed and I've always assumed they were English from someone like Triumph or Hilman etc.

Anyway, anyone who is local or passes into Watfrod from Oxhey/Northwood or through past the football grounds will have noticed these cars and I figured that after thirty years of making a note to find out what they were, now they look to have gone, I ought to make the effort and ask someone.

Just remembered the existence of street view.

The old cars I recall are replaced by a pair of what look like ricers here:

Sound like Triumph 2000/2500 estates.

I have a feeling that they were. Anyone from Watford would have seen them over the years.

Yeah - spent years driving past them.

There was a red estate type car there in varying states of restoration. It looked like a scimitar.
One of those civics has been there a good while too. There was a guy with long grey hair working on the purple one when I went past a while ago.

Can't get a much more Stag-like front!

I know where you mean, but I don't remember them from the last 15yrs or so.

Thanks. The red estate is the one I was thinking of. He's either had several over the years of kept reprinting that one as there was a white one, light green and I'm sure orange over the years.

Always thought Watford had a really good car scene. It was always based around very cheap cars being made to look fun. When I was parked up at Richer Sounds earlier this year I met a young chap who was restoring Mogs, Minis and moving into old Volvo estates. And last night I passed a guy in what looked like a tatty old Anglia that had been slammed.

My bland-sensitive sunglasses prevented me from even seeing that.

Not from Watford but know exactly where you mean.

I have see all sorts there over the years. Quite often big American things that hold little interest for me.

But I think the car you're referring to was a triumph 2500 estate?

Was always good to see what was there.

Edit: should've read the later replies!
