Hi, Car before the S5 was a A8 remapped 4.2 D4, It was a step down in comfort , for no more power, I had bodywork/paintwork issues with the car, The dealer thought he could polish out , 1/2 a day job, Paint shop I know and trust said 2/3 days to totally prep and paint full side and fit a new window trim , The comfort bit for my wife (who has a bad back ) did the final bit really, Sold it back to the dealer £3K loss, And bought a Range Rover Evoque , easy to get in to and a good comfortable ride, But I do like Audi,s looking out to test ride a RSQ3. I need the comfort now, Wish Id have kept my A8 real good car.

Blimey Alan. What was wrong with the paint ? Was it a factory finish thing ? What color as it ?

Bit of a difference between an S5 and a Range ! Rangie definitely easier to get in and out of and more comfy.

It was a bad repair done for the last owner, who traded it in at Poole Audi, They then sold it on to Trade ??? Who they then put it on there fore court as a year old S5 with 9K miles, The car looked mint, it was only when I got it home , Seeing the car at different angles in good light , I could see sanding marks under the paint , Not good, Anyway its gone now. Good luck with yours, They are a nice car,

Hmmm. Poole Audi must've realised it was repaired and didn't want the aggro of selling it and the buyer coming back re quality of repair. Smart in their part I guess.

Makes you wonder whether there is too great a risk buying a car less than 3 years old other than from a dealer if the same franchise. Also that even if a car is young, one owner and low miles you can't take anything for granted.

Am glad you have sorted it out - but I bet it was stressful (not to mention annoying).

Whilst am looking at a V6 S5, thus caught my eye:

That does look nice. I recently parted with my V8 S5, great sounding car and quite fun just a little expensive to run!

Interestingly mine was also ex-Poole Audi and had some suspect looking paintwork on the front presumably from previous damage...

My head says V6 (more modern, S-Tronic, better MPG, lower Road Tax) but my heart says V8 (before they ban them !!)

Late, low miles, V8's now fetch more than high mileage early V6's. I suppose some degree of overlap is to be expected.

The S5 doesn't seem to have the cult following of the RS5 so prices not crazy high for V8 or V6.....

I'm really biased, but I chose a late, low mileage v8 over the v6 and I'd do the same again given the same choice.

The sound of the v8 is intoxicating and I felt it more suited what I wanted from the car. Buying the car from Audi I knew chipping it wouldn't be an option anyway, so the v6 didn't offer anything other than a facelift (I think my 2011 car is handsome anyway) and better mpgs... I wasn't in this to save money.

Do what I did and try both before you buy. My car also had the 20" alloys which really made the car standout for me.
