I have a Caterham with small Banner battery (Spec: 12v 30AH 300CCA). The car is kept in a garage block without power. I would like to be able to use a solar panel with my Accurate battery charger.
I have had a quick look and can see there are numerous solar panels available but bout sure what wattage I would need. Would I need an inverter to run the accumate?
Or can you recommend an accurate regulated 12v charger to use instead o the Accumate which will charge at an accurate 14.4v i.e not over charge and cook the battery.
Do I need to consider anything else?

There are solar chargers available for charging 12V car batteries directly. What you might want to have for the Caterham is not one you put on the parcel shelf or dashboard; but one that you can put on the garage roof and forget. 10W should be ok to keep the 30Ah battery alive, when the panel gets good sunlight.

Here's one that is weather proof, no extra charger needed:

I've used one of the small 1.5 watt cigar lighter ones on the shed roof to keep a large 4x4 battery from self-depleting for over a year. Despite the low price it has stayed waterproof.

Doesn't need a seperate charger, such as your Accumate. Extension leads avaialable.

If there's anything other than a self-discharge drain then you might need more watts if you have an alarm etc fitted.

It won't charge a flat or low-charge battery but it does stop them from self-discharging.

Thanks of the links. The 10w kit looks very good. Just need to work out a way to fix the solar panel w/o damaging the felt rood (as the garage is rented).

If it's a flat roof just toss it up there and run the cable through the door frame smile

screw it to a small paving slab, with some metal brackets to give it an 35 to 40 ish degree angle and place on roof, facing South.
