Hi Folks,

GOT to get a couple of cars running ....

Renault 5 (1.4 automatic), been laid up (garaged) for nearly 30 years

Rover Mini Cooper MPi laid up outside covered for circa 10 years (had plugs removed and "a good dose of WD40" sprayed into the bores before plugs refitted when it was laid up)

Was going to replace engine oil & filters, drain fuel, prime (new?) fuel filters with injector cleaner or similar, remove plugs, remove fuel supply (disconnect electrical supply to fuel pump / injectors) turn over by hand, if OK turn over on starter, if OK refit plugs and fuel supply add some new fuel and then turn over and hope for the best.

Big unknown (for me) is the autobox on the Renault.....

Thoughts please....

After 30 years everything made of rubber will need replacing: seals, bushes, hoses, tyres etc.

And all fluids, and the ignition system and everything that's gone rusty.

Quick update....

Renault was in surprisingly good condition partly due to the fact the last service (all filters & fluids, new front pads and discs) was only 2 miles and 16 years ago. Replaced four brake pipes (both front & both front-rears), one wheel cylinder NSR, one fuel filter, two cv boots (split when rotating the road wheels by hand), brake fluid change, new battery and four tyres (no longer round)

Turned over by hand, turned over on starter, added fuel and away it went!!!

Passed MOT at first attempt with a couple of advisories (tyres and a loose lower wing (rivet corroded)) both easily fixed.

Done nearly 500 miles including two runs if 100+miles, replaced the fuel filter (£2.92 + VAT) otherwise running well.

Mini freed off the brakes to get it moving - realistically it needs a new shell and a bit (lots) more work!

Cheers
