Nikon Capture Control
Discussion
Nope
No idea at all. Haven't gone for Capture yet - is it any good?
But aren't you copying the files across to your hard drive first?
I.e. My workflow (developed over the period of eight days so I may be making some big mistakes!) starts with:
Copy raw files to HDD
Copy raw files from HDD to CD - phew! that's the images archived now I can play with the rest
Are they there??? Format CF card
Open files in Raw Converter (RSE for me) and go....
et cetera
et cetera
et cetera

Oh I see!
Sorry - 1/2 litre of vino and I can't make sense of the simplest instructions!
Well - embarassing to admit - but I've just read most of the manual ... and it says that it's the PictureProject software for the copying over to the PC, not Capture. Agreed that (under XP) the PTP setting is supposed to be right.
But that's just my take and I haven't used either (yet).
I think you probably need to wait for someone who knows what they're talking about to come along

Can I just ask why you dont download from the card and use Nikon Capture to done stage one production. BTW if you arent aware there is a free download of Capture 4.2 available on the nikon-europe site...but you have to have 4 first
Hi, yes, that's what I can do - just cut and paste image files into a folder and then open with whatever I like.
I acquired 4.0 and updated it to 4.2 as you say.
As I'm sure you know, Nikon Capture is in two parts, Nikon Capture Control and Nikon Capture Editor. Which bit do I need to load a custom curve? Capture Control won't open as it can't see the camera...
Are you running XP? In theory it should see you camera (more or less) the instant you plug it in, in fact the W2000
machine I've been using recently also see's my D100 just fine, I can't imagine it should have any more of a problem seeing a D70.... so in summary - possibly an IT problem? I may know someone who can help with that....

Yes, the PC can see it fine - as a removeable hard drive. I have a shortcut called 'D70', no problem. That's how I can cut and paste images. But *Nikon Capture Control* won't see the camera.

I just use Capture Editor, I transfer all the files to my PC hard drive and then work from there. Have to say though that after a day's shoot I have used more than 8GB of card...so download onto Smartdisk 'on location' then just download from Smartdisk when I get back to base

Now from what I've been reading you may need to switch it out of PTP to Mass Storage to get the software to "see" the camera. Have you tried this?
Wurgle. I think I tried both, but I'll have a another go to make sure. I'm sure it's PTP. Back later...
Why don't Nikon actually tell you how to do this? Grrr.
