Nothing more than curiosity, what do people prefer?

  • Start early finish early?
  • Start and finish along (roughly) traditional 9-5?
  • Start late finish late?

Start early finish early for me.

Time asleep is wasted, spare time in the evening is time i can do something with.

8-4 for the last 15 years, so I'll go with that. No experience of anything else! Other than odd long days, weekends etc.

Definitely.

Problem is when I was working from home I would start at about 6am and have done what needed to be done by lunch. But, because wife was at work and kids at school I kept working until about 4pm. Ended up being knackered and bored.

Now I'm onsite most of the time I'm tied to starting 7:30am at the earliest but can't finish until 2:30pm at the earliest really. Maybe get away by 1:30pm mid week.

Same for me - I spent a couple of summers starting early and leaving in time to play a round of golf after work nearly every day.

Kids ended that but I still like to get in early

The challenge is being disciplined enough to leave at a reasonable time otherwise you can find yourself doing 12 hour days.

Especially in a co full of software engineers where 11 am starts can be the norm....

We have 4 shift patterns where I work, I prefer starting at 7:15 and finishing at 14:30 the most.

Start late finish late. Would rather a lie in and have a bit more energy, then work would probably be more productive too.

Shame I am a 9-5er atm! I used to work evenings and hated being at work when everyone else was chilling, but that was the only downside as I loved that morning peace when everyone else is rushing to work.

The shift that I would hate to do is 2.00pm - 10.00pm. I would rather work nights !

I prefer to do what I want when I want, so long as I get the results.

Some days I'll start early and finish early (ie. on time)

Some days I'll start early and finish later

If I'm feeling a bit knackered, I'll start late and finish early

I may even have a little nap in the afternoon and work into the evening.

I'd hate to be in a job where I had fixed hours.

I do 7.30am to 8pm.
Long days but the upside is that I do my 36hrs over 3 days so have quite a lot of free time.

I'd like to say start early, finish early, but things always seem to happen and it ends up being early til late.

a few years ago I spent a year doing midday til 8pm which was pretty miserable really!

Start early, finish early. Have a long evening in which to get stuff done or enjoy myself.

I can start anytime between 6:30am - 9am and finish between 3pm - 5:30pm, providing I do my hours. I usually work 6:30am - 3pm and skip lunch, which means I get more afternoon/evening to enjoy! However the last few weeks have seen me working longer hours ...

I start at about 5 am and finish at 10 am. Works for me... no distractions.

If working for someone else, 8-4 or 9-5

If working for myself 7 - 7 or longer

I tend to start early and finish when works done, working for myself. I'm not keen on 9-5, previous jobs have been early start and finish late.
