Noise after changing the chain and cassette

Evening,
Just after some help / advice after changing the chain and cassette, my bike has picked up a unqiue noise when initially pullling away and putting a little bit of power through the pedal, the almost ratchet like noise starts and then stops once your going through the gears. The noise is worse in the front chainring.
Given my limited mechanically knowledge I took the bike to the shop who diagnosed the problem as the bottom bracket. Got that changed by them and also a full service, including the new fitted cassette removed and put back on. Picked the bike up and cycled 85 miles the next day, same problem, and really quite noisy when pedalling up hill under load.
Took it back to the shop the next day and both mechanics are stumped. I'm reluctant to take it back for a 3rd time and will try and find another shop to look at it.
However has anyone had a similar nosie and managed to resolve the problem? It's driving me nuts.
Are there any decent shops near the sidcup areas?

Sounds (pardon the pun) like the crank also needs replacing.
The stretched old chain has worn it down, so the contact surface isn't what the new chain expects.
I did a similar thing recently, by only swapping the chain out. It doesn't "jump" on the cassette, so I'm hoping the annoying noise just stops once it's all bedded in again.

Have you tried to reproduce the problem with the bike on a bike stand or upside down? Wear a gardening glove and use your hand to put some resistance on the rear wheel, then turn the crank to try to cause the noise to occur. It should at least allow you to figure out where on the bike it's coming from.
I would suspect the chainring if everything else is properly adjusted. You can tell if it is worn by looking for shark-tooth shape teeth.
Creaks can come from anywhere though - pedals / slightly loose quick release / headset etc. so worth checking that things are properly tight.

) still the problem persisted.
Turned out to be a loose nut on the rear replaceable drop outs - worth having a check that everything is tight.
Mine even went back to the LBS who failed to pick it up.
As said above though, new chains on worn chain rings is not always ideal, my brother did this recently and it would slipped with force being put through it, a new crankset did solve the problem.

WTF?! Really! You think someone would be daft enou........ er, hang on, good point. I did do that, not too long ago either on a new ish XTR derailleur.
I had a noise like that develop in the summer, I knew I was passing a bike shop so I stopped off just a few mins before their closing time. I asked them to have a go at tightening the crank bolts as I though that might be the cause. It wasn't... so having a good look around they prescribed new bottom bracket as the next most obvious cause, but that obviously would be a bigger job so couldn't be done there and then (and I had a ph pedal powered meet up to get to for the dynamo).
As a precaution, they sprayed gt85 on the pedals where the spindles go in... the noise went away!

Brand new SLX rear mech which now has a couple of grooves in the chain guide...... Took me a while to work out what I'd done when the noise started on the next ride.....

Does it make equal noise on both?IME cogs wear at completely different rates.
In other words, the chain might be fine on the inner ring but noisy on the outer - which obviously points to the answer!
As it seems unlikely that you wouldn't have noticed such a different, I would be seriously tempted to pull everything apart and start from scratch before buying new kit.
So pedals off, chain off and seriously check the magic link.
Liberal lube, particularly of the derailleur.
And make DAMN sure the cranks are properly set on the BB otherwise you are probably ruining it with every pedal-stroke right now!
