So tell me this is absolutely nothing but is it reasonably common for the DVLA to mess up and issue two log books for the same car.
Just bought a previously owned car and now have two books. Reg, details etc all the same, different book references though.....

On 1.1.2004 a new V5C was brought in to replace the old V5. It is to conform to new EEC Regs and entitled UK Registration Certificate.

The old one is replaced when vehicle is re-taxed etc and becomes invalid. All should have been replaced by 30th June 2005.

Have you, like me, the old and the new?

I had this last March. I bought the car, and four weeks later received the new logbook. Two days after that I received another logbook. All details identical apart from the logbook number. All attempts to actually speak to the DVLA resulted in raised blood pressure. In the end, the wife of a friend of MrRotty's who works for DVLA suggested destroying the 'older' of the two. Have to say that I haven't yet - worried that I might tear up the 'wrong' one.

I just received a new style logbook for my MR2 after taxing it at the end of last month. It had a covering letter stating that I should destroy the old style one.

I've got two new style ones as opposed to one old - one new.

How about keep the newer of the 2 and send the older one back in an envelope with a covering letter explaining the situation. That way the DVLA can destroy it if they want to, or send it back to you...

We had two old ones for mrs muley's Fiesta, but only one of the new snazzy ones.

I'd worry that DVLA might then think the vehicle was written off! Better to write and NOT enclose the other logbook. Better still, go to your local DVLA office and get them to sort it out while you wait. And if you give them a log book ... get a receipt for it! - Streaky

Cheers lads - give them nothing - ask for clarification - sounds like a plan
