Reader's Scars

German Shepherd. Dying in the back of a Red Sierra Estate in roadworks I was the engineer on in 1995. Pulled into the cones having spotted the car (Sunday lunchtime-baking hot-85-90 degrees). Walked over to the car and there was the biggest GSD I'd ever seen on the back seat with a foot long tongue in a stupor. I thought it was dead to start with. Broke into the Sierra (not difficult in those days for a Widnes boy). The dog was half way to being all the way dead. It hardly stirred. Went to my works van and got a bottle of water, sat in the back of the Sierra and started to try to revive the dog with water cupped in my hand. After a few minutes the dog perked up a little and I gave it the rest of the water. Remarkable recovery. She was really very friendly. Thought to myself what do I do? In the meantime I wound all of the car windows down a little and closed the doors to stop the dog from naffing off. Tried the site radio to speak to the Fat Controller, no response so planned to drive down to the RSPCA a couple of miles up the road in Huyton and let them know. I was about to get in the van when I looked back and thought that I may have wound the back window down too much so went back, stuck my hand through the open window and wham, the b
h only went for me like a wolf, grabbing hold of my hand, incisor in the thumby fat bit, blood everywhere, not letting go. I had to bop her on the nose with my other hand and drag my hand out of her mouth. Wrapped my bleeding hand in my visi-vest and drove to the hospital expecting a couple of stitches. Three days in hospital having nerves and tendons re-acquainted with each other!

My sister's friend asked me to go down to her car (red Ford Fiesta) and just check the dog still had water. Instead of looking through the window, I stuck my hand in and the f
king enormous dog did just that to me but it sounds like you were injured worse than me!
I have some really big ones ones across my back from falling/scraping down a steep bank and into the River Severn when I was about 12.
