New Sony camera shoots in ARW format for RAW - whats the best software for editing these files?

Always used Photo Shop Pro in the past for Canon RAW files but I suppose that wont work???

err... aren't they just RAW as in they should be supported by all the programs just as RAW is ??

I've never had any issues with my Sony "RAW" files...

(what camera did you get ?)

Lightroom uploads my 2016 a6300 Sony raw files without me even asking. However, I do remember there being an issue in the past.

Lightroom also opens my sony cybershot RX100iii raw files without problem.

Maybe time to buy a Mac wink ...or update Lightroom?

(..and yes I also have a PC)

My understanding is that every camera produces its own brand of RAW file. As you buy newer cameras you need to upgrade your software to match.

ARW appears to be Sonyspeak for RAW - 'Alpha Raw Image': http://www.online-convert.com/file-format/arw

Similarly a Nikon RAW file is called a NEF (for Nikon Electronic Format, in case you were interested!)

You may not need new software, just the driver/converter. Google it for your preferred software.

I had the same issue. I needed to download a driver, I can now preview any ARW file, and open with Photoshop type programs.

I think you can download Adobe Camera Raw as a stand-alone here which would work fine. It is already incorporated in LR and PS cc. I can load ARW direct to LR without problem.
