Further to my voltmeter problem, it sorted itself out now the rest of the gauges are playing up, does anyone know where the earth points are on an S2 ? think I`ll give them a good clean.
Try under the screenwash bottle, the tube going down at an angle to meet the outrigger. There should be a big soldered up clump of earth wires onto an M8 stud (13mm nut).

Mine has a stud on the opposite side also but nothing on it, maybe just for left hand drive cars?
As an S2 I don't think yours will have them but on later cars there are two body securing bolts into the chassis under the centre console, could be an earth wire or two to one of those?
