Come on McLaren, time to get off the pot and match the competition (or better still) beat them.

I hope they do. It's the one thing that will send me back to Ferrari!

It is the dreadful build quality and endless faults ( doors, hydraulics, electrics, paint ) from new that is sending me to another brand. I may just have been unlucky but after 2 new cars with the same poor quality, enough is enough.
Such a shame, hoping Woming gets its right eventually.

Agree an extended warranty would be welcomed for some wanting peace of mind but as far as build quality goes I've found McLaren to be second to none which has not been my experience with several Ferrari's and Lamborghini's. Ferrari's in particular drive me crazy and its only when ive spent a couple of years getting everything sorted how it should be I end up off loading it to the next owner who probably ends up with a car which is better than factory fresh

Sounds like you've been very unlucky. I've got one of the early cars and not had major issues with the car. Any minor stuff has been sorted under warranty. Seeing the competition though I would expect Mclaren to match them, especially given that they're still a very new car brand

Have to admit, I'm getting less and less convinced that Mclaren are actually going to offer anything after 5 years warranty wise even through a 3rd party as they did from years 3-5. Don't quite understand how in the US the Mclaren dealerships are offering factory backed warranties through to year 7 though.

Seems that Porsche are happy to stand by their cars for 15 years now...

Mac should really be offering 10 years now, and provide parts for third parties to fix their cars, or who'd want to buy/own a car after 5 years??

Yes. Sure they are.

Its quite possible that I have been unlucky. The dealers seem to get the worst of it.Its the ex factory build quality that lets the product down.
While Rambo Lambo prefers McLaren to Ferrari I had better experiences with the Italians, it just goes to show that we all have different experiences to keep the forums alive.

When the to look at a 12C yesterday.
Very nice car but I have concerns.
As the car is already 5 years old once the McDealers warranty expires in a years time I'm left extremely exposed.
If something does go wrong out of warranty I can't even take it to an indie to save money on labour costs as things stand ( I always get my cars serviced by the Manufacturers dealers and repaired by a quality indie)
Whilst I'm sure Mclarens focus is on new car sales they neglect the older models at their peril.
I could very well end up buying a car that's just about to enter a second round of massive depreciation.

The extended warranty past five years is "apparently" in the throes of being sorted in the coming months......

Well let's hope it gets sorted before more folk like me with just enough money to by one buy something else instead.

The more I hear about the 5+yr warranty the more I doubt it will actually happen to be honest. Mclaren have shown very marked lack of interest in supporting older cars in favour of new models so far and probably think it'll make people change up if anything....

I'm considering a 12C but the lack of extended warranty is enough to stop my purchase. Waiting on an answer from a dealer to see they will offer a 10 year product. As has been said, its not just the potential bill if something goes wrong during my ownership, its the resale value a couple more years down the line. How many potential customers will be prepared to pay £100k for such a complicated car that has covered 40k+ miles with no catch net? The market has got to be significantly limited by the lack of manufacturer warranty.

Agree fully with this. Always liked the 2 year warranty on used cars via Porsche and the likes, as it allows you to drive the car for a year and then sell on with warranty still in place.

Last few months I too have thought about a 12c although having run older Ferraris I'm not totally scared of being in my own! But modern technology and the iris issues would concern me and the lack of Indy abilities to fix it
Where my Ferrari could be looked at by some well known specialists
