Hoping someone can help clarify this- I have a monitor audio s300 speaker thing and a mac. For garden cinema, we'd like to use the monitor as the sound source but airplay is a bit flaky through an entire film. I have a long usb cable which plugs the mac into the monitor, BUT it still shows in the sound options on the mac as an airplay device... is there a way to run the audio through the usb cable to the monitor speaker and avoid wifi?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks, was thinking it must surely be possible to use the usb out- usb in route- but unless anyone knows differently, I guess it's an aux lead, before Apple have them all destroyed!

Buy a USB DAC - improve the sound quality at the same time. Very popular.

Airplay is usually very reliable - is your wifi signal getting a bit weak out in the garden ?

Plug in the USB, switch the speaker unit to the correct USB mode, and then hold option+click on the speaker icon on your mac desktop.

Is there a USB output or name of speaker unit listed?

according to the manual for this product (hint hint RTFM) it supports USB storage devices but won't connect in USB to a mac or PC.

the suggestion for a dac is a good one, the behringer UCA 202 is about 20 quid and works pretty well in my experience.
