Helmet recommendations please 997.1, no headroom!!!
Discussion
Hi guys, (& gals)
May I please ask what helmets you track day goers use in your 997.1 cars
I have this model with the 18 way electric seats but appear to have no headroom with an Arai open face helmet.
I'm 6'1 and have to result in having the seat as low as possible and backrest recline to a ridiculous angle to get any resemblance of headroom
Any recommendations please
Thanks

OP, do you have like massively long arms or something? you should easily fit in a 997 at 6'1". Is the seat base broken and not going low enough? Rohrl is 6'4", pretty sure he fits!
Im part orangutan I think
I'm just guessing the helmet I have has a shell thickness which doesn't help. So just asking what people are buying for trackdays

Temporarily swap your armchair out for a bucket seat when you take it to the track.
A PHer took me out in a 997 GT3 on the 'ring and there was definately more headroom when sitting in the bucket seats.r1flyguy1 said:
I don't do enough trackdays to justify buying a bucket seat just for the purpose.
I'll see what helmets they have for hire on my next trackday and see if there is any difference
Thanks folks
Fair enough, though I was thinking more along the lines of a couple of hundred quid for something basic and generic with fixed brackets (potentially via eBay) which is ultimately crash helmet money rather than suggesting that you should be looking for an OE Porsche bucket and rails for (potentially) thousands. Swap in as part of your TD prep, swap out when you clean it up afterwards. Put it on eBay if you ever swap cars to something that it won't go in. Just wanted to put the thought out there as it really is the only option that will get you the kind of headroom that I think you are after and not every way to go about it would call for big money.I'll see what helmets they have for hire on my next trackday and see if there is any difference
Thanks folks
997.1 GT3/buckets and no sunroof I had no issues with headroom (6'4"). Moving to a 997.1 turbo was a problem as they are mainly sunroof and adaptive seats. With this setup my head is touching the headlining so no chance of going on track, even if the roof is open it wouldn't work.
I found a 997.1 turbo with sports seats which sit a lot lower...loads of headroom.
Sorry..not alot of help with your issue other than swop the seats

Thanks Andrew, at least I know it's not just me now as that is exactly my problem.I found a 997.1 turbo with sports seats which sit a lot lower...loads of headroom.

Maybe as the above post I can look for a sports seat or bucket seat for track days.
If I replace the seat for the trackday will it cause any issues throwing up error messages disconnecting the electrics for the seat or not, I'm assuming not as it has no ramifications of car/engine issues but happy to be corrected
The proper porsche carbon buckets are about £6k each. After market buckets in my experience only sat low after a visit to a specialist to weld in some rails, the sliding platforms are general fit and too high. With rails the seats will bolt on with a sidemount kit and there is plenty of adjustment to tweak.
I'd say the best bet is a pair of 2nd hand sport seats or swop with someone ! The adaptive seats were £2k option against the std fit.
