E60 to F10 M5... wow
Discussion
Wow what a let down.
Went to see a very keenly priced F10 M5 today with the full intention of swapping my E60 for it. Had all the options I wanted (except the full leather*) and looked in great condition. But it just felt so bland and more of a powerful 5 series than something truly special. Of course the gearshifts were much quicker and the ride was great but it lacked a personality and a soundtrack.
Also not sure where all this supposed torque was, it didn't feel any quicker or more driveable, however the turbo lag was most definitely there even in the sport modes.
So I'm a bit disappointed, but it did make me realise just how special that S85 V10 is!

- p.s. how is full leather not standard on these cars?? Cheapens the interior so much having plastic on the dash and where your arm rests on the window, and cloth headlining

Was it the one at Stephen James £29,995 Singapore grey? If so it seems very cheap compared with all the others. I was very tempted.
As you know I am thinking about changing my M5 but it's going in to have a few bits done under warranty next week and when I get it back I'm going to order the FAMS tune and hang onto it for a bit longer. Can't comment on the F10 as I've not driven one yet.
Are you going to the Sunday service at Brands tomorrow?

Test drive some others as that does not sound right.Went to see a very keenly priced F10 M5 today with the full intention of swapping my E60 for it. The LCI M5 I had would be miles better than the V10, bland and a bit boring and that's a reason I sold mine. Bought the M6 GC CP, it was better but here in the UK unusable , I sold that too.

Yep that's the one, nothing wrong with the car, they priced it too cheaply IMO and someone is getting a great deal! They had a long list of people wanting to buy the car including someone who was offering more! So I'm very impressed by their integrity to give me first refusal as I called first
Double booked on something else tomorrow unfortunately...

I think that's another problem, you can get into trouble very quickly without knowing it! You could cruise at 120mph without waking a sleeping baby, it's a bit too refined. Thank you for not buying it! I was gutted when I heard someone had "reserved it" but went to look at it anyway. The price was so good that when I spoke to other dealers, they thought it was a typo. Anyway, I put a deposit down at 7pm and collecting it on Wednesday.
Very exciting! I wasn't looking for an out and out sports car, I've had those before, this is more to drive in comfort and cart the Mrs and baby in, and then have some fun when they're not with me.
Dash leather would be nice, but good luck finding one with it! I've looked for a while and they are very rare. This one has pretty much every other option though, so I can live with it.

Congrats and enjoy!
The salesperson made it seem like you were absolutely desperate to buy it, and it did cross my mind that somebody else would have been much happier taking this car than if I did
Agree full leather seems super rare on the F10s, I'm sure more of the E60s had them specced. Maybe it's to do with the cheap lease deals which get quite a bit more expensive if you start adding options on...

Yes, I actually spoke online the night before it became available and asked to reserve it, then missed his call at 8:30am and by the time I got hold of him, you already had it nailed down. When I went to view it, some other guys were there about to take it out for a test drive. I didn't need one as I've driven plenty of these, so just did the paperwork to ensure I was next on the list, if you gave it up. The sales guys even had a bit of an argument on the floor about it, as another guy had a buyer there too. Anyway it worked out, thanks! The salesperson made it seem like you were absolutely desperate to buy it, and it did cross my mind that somebody else would have been much happier taking this car than if I did

Trust me, leather dash is normally my first must have, especially coming from an Aston where even the inside of the door bins are lined in the finest leather, but as it's so hard to find, I gave in to a life of soft plastics!

Good luck finding your next car. Try out the RS4. NA 4.2l V8, it's a lovely engine!

Was full leather c.£5.5k on the E60 though? If it's a must have, look for any M6 LCI when it became standard (coupe/vert/GC!). It was a cheaper option on the M6 anyway pre-LCI so there's a few more around than on M5. They haven't dropped to the same price point as M5s 2nd hand though...

Not sure what you drove but it won't have been an F10 M5 - its better in every single way over an E60 and has bundles of character. I'm confused....
I would ask why has the Stephen James car got an LCi steering wheel on a pre LCi car?
That wheel was introduced on cars built after August 2013 from memory
Just a thought
The previous owner upgraded it, paid £3k apparently! I would ask why has the Stephen James car got an LCi steering wheel on a pre LCi car?

It's a better wheel and providing there's a genuine reason that's fine.

An upgrade would seem logical, £3000 probably too much and nearer £1000 I would suggest.

The previous owner upgraded it, which is a nice to have! The wheel is c£700 but apparently it was the labour and additional parts needed to wire it in that cost the extra..... He must have really liked that steering wheel! Got to love these perishable extras. It's a better wheel and providing there's a genuine reason that's fine.

+1 Apart from the full leather there is absolutely nothing that I preferred on my e60 m5's to the f10
That car was cheap though , The same dealer has a similar car for 7 k more . Strange
Seems to be the same 'argument' every time a new M5 comes out.
We had the same view when the e60 M5 came out. It was blisteringly fast compared to our e34 M5s, but didn't feel special in any other way - and down to a man, every one of us said we'd keep the e34 over the e60.
But then, the trick of the M5 is that it doesn't try to shout its credentials like an M version of the 1/2/3/4 series do - it's meant to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.
