Radiator fan packed in, removal & replacement advice please
Discussion
Hi,
The radiator fan on my 400SE decided yesterday on the M5 with 120 miles to home, that it needed 75amps to run. To me it does not look like removal is going to be all that easy, so any advice on the procedure will be most welcome.
Do I then take the opportunity to upgrade to twin fans or stick to a single original one. Again, if staying single what fan is recommended, and if going twin again what fans are recommended and how would I achieve the installation.
Thanks
Nick

if you've got the standard set-up, it should be a Davies Craig DC31 13" fan. Got my last one from the importers:
http://www.mawsolutions.com/
Very quick service from them. £108 all in - last June, after it failed at Zolder.
The fan cowling assembly is held to the radiator shroud by three bolts (allen headed IIRC). You will need to remove the bonnet, but the entire fan/cowl will come out through the top. Not too difficult.
That fan is perfectly fine for the 400, even with my modified engine etc. it's never had a problem keeping things cool. Do make sure that the rubber flaps on the shroud are in place and able to move back with airflow once moving though. I replaced mine a few years ago (when the shroud was off the car) and needed to shorten one side as it was catching on the bottom rad hose.
