Brake lights on dash

Just noticed that when I apply the electric parking brake on my 981 Cayman, the warning light with the exclamation mark illuminates. I note that there is another symbol on there, the circular one with a P in the centre, which doesn't come on.

Is this correct? Or is there a problem? The manual states the brake warning light should come on when the electric parking brake is applied but they don't say which one that is. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks

If it happens consistently then there is probably an issue.

Mine occasionally gets a bit confused and the yellow light comes on, fixed by turning off the car, removing the key then starting up again...occasionally is maybe twice in 8 months

Hmmm...So what light should come on when I apply the parking brake? I always get the red one with the exclamation mark whenever I apply it (never get it otherwise, and have never got the yellow one with the P in the centre).

I think your mixing the up slightly...it's the red one with a P that should come on under normal conditions.

If you have a yellow with ! then there is a problem, usually followed by a warning message in the digital dash display.

The Red P is normal and indicates the parking break is on, the yellow one is not normal and something is up if you get it all of the time.

When you press the parking brake under the dash to apply it there is a light on it which illuminates.

I guess that's the light referred to.

just to clarify, during the light check on ignition, there is a yellow light with a 'P' and a red one with a '!'. Can definitely not see a red one with a 'P' in the middle.

I'm getting the red '!' one when applying the parking brake. Is this normal or am I going bonkers? To me, a red light with a '!' anywhere on the dash of a car means somethings wrong, unless this is a 'normal' symbol on Porsches?!

Here's the sequence:

Insert key, having previously left car with parking brake applied.
The ! in orange shows per your photo, along with the red light on the parking brake handle under the dash.
After 7 seconds with the key NOT being turned to start the engine, both lights go out.

Yeah, sorry my bad, must be getting old!

The red symbol with the ! shows up when you start the car with the other lights, it stays on after the other lights go out if you have the parking break engaged until you either disengage it manually or you drive off and it disengages automatically. Perfectly normal.

If either the red or yellow lights stay on after you've turned off the parking break then it means something isn't happy
