We popped into Hamilton and Inches today in Edinburgh. My wife is looking for a datejust , tried on various models. All are very nice.
I liked the new Yachmaster , however i am trying not to look for me at the moment.
We are heading over to brother in law who lives in Dubai in October. I was wondering if anyone has made a saving purchasing outside of the Uk?
Obviously Dubai is where we shall be looking , or is this a pointless exercise and maybe just go to the local AD ?
Your thoughts .

Personally (and it is a very personal view), with the way women's and mid sized Rolex depreciate I'd struggle to buy new. When I bought my wife's it obviously wasn't with the view to resale values but the second hand market just opened up so many more options for the budget I had, most models litre really half in value in next to no mount of time.
^ I hear this said quite often but if you look at Watchfinder as an example, say they have a 178### that is a year old for 10% less than new or a 178### that is 6 years old for 25% less than new, then why wouldn't you buy new.
An AD will likely discount it, perhaps somewhere between the 2 %s given above, 5 year warranty and name on card and it's new.
2nd hand values aren't quite the bargain they might appear. Pick a watch, get a 2nd hand value then a price from an AD and then decide, if it's close or a better deal, ie no service req'd and you can do it, then buy new.

I could be out of touch and things have gone up but my local jewellers (ex-AD) sourced me a stainless and white gold date just in the exact spec she liked for around half RRP, this was 2013 though and the watch was around 5 years old and in fully serviced (new glass) and polished mint condition. An AD will likely discount it, perhaps somewhere between the 2 %s given above, 5 year warranty and name on card and it's new.

It's the regular women's size, 27mm?

Yes you did well, good deal. It's the regular women's size, 27mm?
I do think that used prices these days are too high and for whatever reason prospective buyers do not search out what it would cost to buy new, sometimes there will not be much in it and it's certainly worth looking into, especially for ladies watches.
I'm not sure about buying in Dubai but you could buy from a Jewellers at the airport if there is one where you're travelling from. I know I looked at, I think, Goldsmiths at Heathrow last time I passed through and they said they could supply tax free prices. They suggested to call and reserve to ensure they had stock.

+1 Went to Vegas on a stag do earlier in the year and flew out of terminal 3 Heathrow and landed back in terminal 5 so took cards from Watches of Switzerland in both terminals as i knew i was going to Dubai a few months later. They said i could order the ladies datejust 26 179173 jubilee bracelet with mop dial with diamonds and diamond bezel but any gents stainless sports model was pot luck so was extremely pleased when i got a GMT 11 BLNR on the same day.The wife's was the most important as it was a birthday holiday.
They can also meet you in any terminal and take you to the shops.

That would have hammered the car/wallet/account! The Gmt Batman is a wise investment aswell.
It was worth it to see the smile on her face as i told her that you could not reserve any watches just see what was in stock. Then let her walk around the shop only to say they did not have the one she liked to which i said don't worry we can look when we get back i'll just have a look at the watches they have in the safe for me and then they came out with the watch she wanted and to my surprise the GMT too so it was a good day.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
