I've just had a really enjoyable drive in the TVR today.
I Decided to go for a cup of tea with family 135 miles away in Wales and have a look at the new Tvr Factory as its on the way hehe

So with some excitement and no hesitation I peeled off the Heads of the valleys road and up some half deserted industrial estate with weeds growing out of the roads, and eventually found this smile

Funny how I had my iPad with me,,, hehe sorry for the poor quality frown
I'm hoping to lay claim to be the first person to take a picture of an almighty TVR outside what is supposed to be the new factory.
Well I think it's cool anyway wink

And for the new owners,, my Tvr pretty much ran all day long, achieved 27 mpg and I bloody raced another Porsche again hehe a Boxster,,, mullered him, which I knew was going to happen but he didn't biglaugh

I had the roof off for much of the day too so these figures are way up there!

I did drive very conservatively though, just real smooth and easy on the machinery smile

But this little road I'm on here, I've known and driven cars on since I was 6 years hehe it's about an inch wide, you can't see it but trust me, on the edge of abyss at times, today doing it in the Tvr, wow,, bit of a trip down memory lane for me and something I've been meaning to tick off.
The car ran faultlessly and never stops thrilling,

I think I've done about 400 miles today, buzzin hehe
Oh and the dog was with me all the way hehe

We worry our arses off over these cars yet put em on a good old road and drive, it's freaking effortless for the great powerful things that they are, rain, shine, hills, mountains, sheep! Nowt much Phases them when there running well,,,
Err fking bumps they don't do,, but hey!

When alls well with the Tvr on a day like today, this is what we work towards,, motoring wildness tamed and utterly responsive to your needs,, what a mad mad car that in a place that has roads so steep you can't normally actually accelerate was a joy to drive.
Tvr have a lot to live upto.

Going along such narrow lanes with turns and crests, edges etc, very Welsh Rally road stage, in such a powerful deadly car like the Tvr, heart pounding, total focus,, twenty four mph hehe some of the gradients are mega and with big brakes coupled to a powerful RV8 engine, I felt a bit of a god,,
Just smiling and laughing most the time really, fair play to the Welsh, loads of cheers and kids shouting nice car mister,
One of those days where all the joys of Tvr ownership seem to come together.

It's so worth the effort to stick with these cars and eventually you'll have a hell fire car that can eat miles like there inches.
If I'd had my roof on I could have got 30 mpg today,, 65-75 mph motorway plodding M50 and pottering up and down hills at no revs or throttle really, just sort of rolling along,

Good brakes are one of the best things you can do for the driving experience, at all times and even just gently working them, it's a deeper confidence, sureness, effortlessness, such a good feeling to know and use, you use the brakes so often your being reminded of there excellence constantly and it's very rewarding.

On the way back to the midlands I reminded myself of driving this very car 1000 miles in 24 hours,,, through France so pretty easy but fk me I'm mad!!! biglaugh and if I'm not mad enough already,,

Driving, that's what it's all about,
Down in those Welsh valleys where my parents grew up and made us go there about 10 times a year as kids, I had a lot of fights, rough necks, but I also had the time of my life, I went back to my old nans village, chricky it's just the same, a few more cars but still plenty of wrecks,,, and then my Tvr, right outside my nans front door, I expected silenced looks and possible contempt, but just the opposite, neighbours wanting to make me tea, it's got to be 30 year since I've been there, but I went there as a lad and it shaped me good and bad,, within minutes some lovely characterful old dear emerged out of a doorway and next thing she's talking about people I knew, increadable.

So to the driving well this pic shows what was once a pitch black slag heap of shale coal deemed good for nothing and dumped by the side of the village, I took a bike to this village Suzuki TS 250 B 1977 vintage, often referred to as the savage if I remember correct,

It was like soft black slippy mud, I was determined to get this bike to the top, we used to run up it as kids, so told me nans what I was doing, she encouraged me hehe
Got to the top in first after starting at the bottom in 3 rd gear and fast,,, just made it, then it flattens out,,,
I set up a speedway track by just doing two long arcing power slides in 3rd and the slide marls now became my apex points hehe I spent a week on soft black mud/coal falling off but not really breaking much, and learnt to slide,,,

So even though I'm boring your eyeballs to pain with this,,,

Today arriving in this sad little place and getting in the car, driving down this steep hill I know so well and looking up at that forest, wow, but I remember when it was a big old challenge,
I cruise out of this quiet forgotten place down and out of the village that's marked by a vicious left turn that signals you've left and your on your own, it used to thrill the heck out of me as a small boy watching my dad drive his Jag, his demeanour, you knew this was special negotiating the veery same turns I did today in a car my father dreamed of,
He set my passion for driving on these dangerous roads by having me in control of the steering wheel and thus the safety of our family, I used to drive the thing by the time I was Seven, when I think of it now,,, but then the flaming kids rode wild ponies around the village in them days hehe my dad made me brave and I'm bloody glad of that

Once I'm on the mountain roads, caution is better than valour every time, but it doesn't matter, the truth is I'm not pushing the throttle much at all, gear changes, lefts/rights, smoothly keeping the car in check, every now and then when the coast is clear, accelerating, it's like two seconds and your now in a different league of danger,, but you have to calm it but it's alright, it still burbles like heaven sent, still effortlessly pulls when it's needed, and permanently has a sound that your always trying to fathom but ultimately you can't and your just left in wonder,,, every single time,,, but you love it because of that,, an enigma,

Long live Tvr and the tradition af cars with big balls and dashing good looks that are made in this fine land of ours, fk buying abroad then, get this damn factory up and running and build some new Chims /griffs Cerbs for a bloody start biglaugh

How hard can it be? I think they should abandon all hope of building a world beater, they should instead concentrate on the historic cars and build and sell tens of thousands all over the world. Ok modern engines and techniques but essentially the same as what we own, how old is the 911 shape. They've flogged it to death,
But it still sells, imagine a really competitive Carbera, re made, using Gordon's skills and a proper engine, these are iconic shapes, call it sacrilege but I believe the Cerb/Chim/Griff,,,,, but not necessarily in that order are modern design icons all of them,
It's simply the shape that stole hearts and took the breath away, nothing like them, like sent from a funkie assed designer with no limits from outer space,, I'm feeling like that dude tonight after such a cool drive, not many cars are hardcore but usable as this for the money. Just do it again, better, I think a re thought Cerb etc would still stun people as there's still nowt like em.

Maybe I'm not ambitious enough but I really believe there's a world market for cars with these shapes, there still way more different than just another Xk look alike, just got to make them work and they'd sell like hot cakes.

Alun, that was a fantastic read for me and you like a dog with 2 dicks with a cheesy smilebiggrin on your face all day long. This is what these cars are all about, drivingdriving them. I know every one is different in what they want from their TVR, some do track days, some do the 1/4 mile and some do sprints, each to their own i say what ever floats your boat and i wouldn't knock anyone for that, unlike someargue on here. For me its the open road and the countryside, having the power there to embarrasshehe that porsche like you did and the grin on your face afterwards.
So thank you Alun, i have really enjoyed reading this as it is something i dream about at the moment while recovering from the shattered bloody bones in my legmad, caused by some Ccensoredt who wiped me out on my motorcycle.
Thanks again Alun, reading this made me smilesmile

Shame I missed you Alun. I was going to go to Sarf Wayels via the M50 yesterday, but the M5 was shagged (technical roadworks term) so we diverted via Kidderminster, Leominster, Hereford, Abergavenny etc, stopping off at Chim871's house near Hereford on the way to look at a misfire. So I spent six hours in the XC90 in rain and hideous traffic to get the 170 miles to Newport, going all over the Welsh borders and loving the scenery.

Lovely write up of a fantastic drive. Good on you, my friend.

I woke up sometime today with a TVR related headache.
Realised I'd written this post so hid away all day!
Thanks so much for the moral support chaps,
Personal stuff should really be kept to oneself but yesterday was very special and charged my batteries.

I feel your pain, what can we say, please forgive the , that's what they are but you have to forgive and get on with re building your life.
My Tvr represents many things to me which are now very personal and after months of questioning the meaning of life let alone TVR ownership, my Tvr offers that something nothing else can, when you've grovelled and fixed, spent big money with Tvr experts when you really can't afford it you have to question your sanity, I've been wavering recently, wondering why I own such a dangerous car, but it's only dangerous if you drive it out of your league at the wrong times,
I found that yesterday's drive was slow and graceful, controlled and every bit as good as fast and balls out.
That's why they are so good, split personality.
It might take you another year to get back to full health, I had a very bad accident once, my right leg was fked for 18 months, but you will come back, better and even more in love with the good simple things in life.

Keep your chin up and keep smiling and if I've offered your mind a bit of relief and the ability to dream again then keep dreaming, you won't be held on that sofa for ever mate even though now it must be so frustrating, keep a positive attitude and eat well, you'll be back.
I wish you all the luck and your TVR's will be waiting like friends, ready to thrill you again. Goodluck Alun.

FausTvr, that's a huge compliment and I'm now actually proud of this little thread. smile thank you.

Mark? Didn't I buy these wheels off you earlier this year mate? Off Facebook?
Nice ain't they hehe
Thanks again if it is you as I really like them. thumbup

Qbee, Anthony, small world, I didn't decide to go until thurs/Friday
I used the fosseway and across to Tewksbury etc, started out in heavy rain, but after checking the weather forcast knew I was going into cleare weather, made it a bit of an adventure and tested the cars durability, soon dried up so then the day really started to get funkie.

Went to visit a race team I'd like to work for when I was there too, just to look over the place.

Mostly even after so much effort and money I've spent on my car I still have that sense of trepidation when embarking on these long Tvr drives, this damn bullst about Tvr unreliability still haunts me and is embedded deep,

Maybe that's what gets me so enthused, for when they run well, I must have stop started the engine a dozen times at least, all when hot and especially when at the factory, I just took a moment of quiet contemplation looking at the car, I never knew they'd try and re kindle the TVR flame, I got mine thinking it's the last of a great car, so standing looking at that dis owned factory building in disarray it reminded me of what I started with, an unloved car in need of modernisation and upgrades of the subtlest kind.

My Tvr represents a form of success that's sadly lacking in other parts of my life, I know you guys believe but when I got my TVR I was subject to all the usual taunts and fears from friends and family, I remember thinking, I'll show you buggers how wrong you are, so my car in front of that factory, if I can do it anyone can.

Because my dad was a good engineer and I love the Welsh passion for things then this factory situated in between to towns that are steeped in engineering history, coal mining was and is a very demanding business,
I'm hoping that if they do build cars here it will be a good choice and the preople will get right behind it, probably my vivid imagination but maybe the Welsh claps and thumbs up I received yesterday was because maybe they'll have the chance to see more of these Tvr's and take some ownership of them, they need to be cars of passion and love, I think the Welsh can offer that in building them, training up the hordes of men needing a job might be a challenge but that's nothing compared to what these people have handled over the years,,,
I once considered these ill educated people somewhat lessor than me, I was young,,, since then I've learnt of the huge tragedies these people endured trying to get at the coal, most couldn't take the tough life but these people did and with massive passion, these people are made of good stuff, a lesson to the rest of us and I'm hoping that passion and commitment will help to be part of TVR's modern success.

I'm very proud to know I came from a place that took on diversity and made it work.

I kerp ruining this with political observation, these are my personal thoughts so not necessarily fact, just a hope.

Britain including Wales if a fine place, we need to invest in us, let's see if that happens.

No worries Ged, your sister is a Briave girl, fair play to her. The truth is the people are very close and that's a rare thing in this fractured world.

Small world - I was on the A465 around 3pm on Saturday, but maybe not the same bit as you.

There is no question I would have recognised your car if I had seen it. The nearest thing to a TVR I saw all day was a Ferrari 430 - poor relation.

It's a lovely part of the world, I have to say. Erin Dawes (to whom i am related by marriage) volunteered the opinion that she would like us to retire to that area, as it is so beautiful and has such nice people.
