Hi, what is the general opinion on whether sport Chrono/sport Chrono plus is essential on a Cayman R? Am I correct in thinking it is pretty much essential on a PDK but not as essential on a manual?

Yea I'd say that was spot on, wouldn't buy a PDK with out it and that's coming from someone with it!

Hi mate
I bumped into a old friend yesterday at a a lotus day. Didn't realise it but he had a pdk spyder, he had chrono fitted by Porsche after he bought it and said made huge difference. On that opinion id say you need it! Think it sharpens up the car.

Yep you're spot on. I've just had it retrofitted to my 987.2 S pdk, glad I went for it! Just yo clarify, a retrofit gives all the functionality without the dash mounted clock part.

Had mine retrofitted too. All things considered it's good value at only £850.

Just buy mine, it's an uber clean car and has the right bits :-)

Plus I would not put my own name at risk selling a stter, most of my cars end up with piston heads members.

I've got it on mine (a manual) and would definitely go for it again - the altered throttle response and less invasive PSM is great.

Mines a manual and starup procedure is - 1) Start car 2) Press Sport and Exhaust buttons. I never drive the car with it turned off as I much prefer how it is with it on.

Could not agree more! Love the integration into the NAV to record laps etc too.

On a PDK I'd say it's an essential yes. On a manual, no.

You know that feeling when an old thread suddenly becomes active again, and your finger hovers to see what 'value added' comment it contains? Hmmmm. Well, I think it is desirable, I like having it on my manual R and press it along with the PSE every time I turn the key.

Hi Fizzbomb, if you don't mind me asking how come you have had 6 CRs? How many did you have at once? Mixture of manual and PDK? If so what was your preference?

yes PSM cuts in way too much if you don't have it, Sports button pressed gives you a nice 15degree slip angle to allow tail out fun out of bends/roundabouts, and gives the throttle that much needed feel.

On PDK it also ups the shift speed, so a must have on both cars, but can be fitted for about £800 at an OPC.
