Road mudguards with a twist

Wifey's Scott road bike has the rear brake down by the bottom bracket. She's going to need some mudguards for Autumn / Winter rides, but without a brake mount on the seat stays I'm thinking this might be a bit of a faff.

Anyone managed to solve this conundrum / can recommend a suitable set of mudguards, or is it going to be a bodge job?

Horrid things. I hated them.

I got 2 pairs of poundshop mudguards and fitted them as per H@ndyclipz guide on YouTube

They work brilliantly.

The youtube guide is for a mountain bike but the same procedure apllies for a roadie.

I've recently got a pair of these too. I've got the Raceblade Pro XL (they are new this year) and look to be the same as those pictured above. They fit well, are very sturdy, and offer pretty good coverage with flaps on the ends (not as good as a FULL guard, but the best of the rest)

SKS Raceblades are good, but Crud Roadracers just as effective and about half the cost. Same sorts of mounting positions.

I run cruds on one of my bikes, can't imagine it working without the cable tie round the brake pivot - it'll wobble about a lot and rub..

I've owned both and wouldn't own the Crudracers again. Coverage and weight is in the Crudracers favour, but everything else about them is inferior in my opinion. I snapped various bits of them through normal use (by this I mean, taking them on and off, taking wheels out, transporting the bike in or on the car) and then they went in the bin.

Same here. The Cruds were forever needing adjustment and were quite a faff. The Raceblades were easy-on, have never rubbed and can be whipped off in seconds. Hard to fault, for what they are.

Let me know, I'm still on cruds. Like the chap above, both front and back have snapped in places, they rub, rattle and generally are a faff.
Not sure Raceblade Xl existed when I was looking tho!

Raceblades for me
Bought last year and used all winter, you need to take time to fit them including fixing the stays with small screws (supplied).
I use tyraps to fix them, the rubber straps that they come with are good but I like a more permanent fixing.

Bought some raceblade pros yesterday and took them back today... for the pro XLs. The clearances for my 25mm 4 seasons tires was a bit too tight and I knew that once mud and grit started to get caught under the guards, they would be really noisy. I know the XLs weigh more but mudguards are supposed to be a curse that you ride with over winter to make you faster in the summer or something like that. I'm very surprised I couldn't find any proper guards that would fit my CAAD8 2014 with 25mm tires.
