Evening all

Found some nasty play in the upper steering uj. Unfortunately on removal it appears to be the 115mm small/large spline version. As noted elsewhere I'm really struggling to source one.

Anyone had this issue ? If so how do you manage to get around it ? Does anyone still do them or is it a case of trying to get the original refurbed somewhere ?

I very much doubt doubt you'll find a new UJ of that length - Although I have not tried it with the shorter 'long' one that is available, I did find a correspondingly longer intermediate splined shaft that should enable the available 100 (or is it 105) mm UJ to be used. Was off a Tuscan or similar I think - TVR part H0349. Will very slightly reduce the installed joint angle when I get around to doing the job, which should give the joint a slightly easier life.

Haven't done it yet as I needed to keep the car in use whilst I tried to sort the bits (was right before setting off for Le Mans last year when I took it to bits thinking I had the right joint) so, as a temporary expediency, I rebuilt the 115mm joint castings with the new bearings and spider from the 100/105 I was sent as a replacement. Was pretty easy to do with a decent vice and some small sockets, followed by a bit of dot punching to 'stake' it; and has been absolutely fine since

Try the Car Builder Solutions website. They do a large/small u/j but not 115 MM. long. However they also do new lower columns of varying lengths. I had to alter the length of my column and to do this they sell cold drawn seamless tube for sleeving thus allowing any length you want to be made up.

Thanks both. That was what I feared, but some good ideas that I'll investigate.

Cheers

could try TVR Dean or one of the other breakers. I doubt they will sell many of the steering parts easily?
